Hey! How are you? Long time now blog…
It’s been a little busy over at the Brooks’ place. I know, I say that every time I log in, but it’s true. I had a really easy month planned and then I volunteered for something. I know. Terrible decision really. But I like helping young authors and the 8th grade English teacher was talking about how the class was doing creative writing and things snow balled.
And so on Tuesday I’m going to be a teacher! For a full day! For a bunch of 8th graders! Who are all taller than I am!
It’ll be fun. I’m excited.
And a little nervous.
Okay, maybe a lot nervous.
I’ve taught plenty of classes before, but usually for adults. And usually for adults who are already familiar with the basics of creative writing. So I borrowed my friend’s 8th grader who goes to a different school and did the class for him to time it and figure out what I needed to do.
Good News: I think I can teach the basics of word choice in under 45 minutes.
Bad News: The kid asked a lot more questions about contracts and finances than I was prepared for. I’m not sure if every class will have questions like that, but I’m going to brush up on copyright law before I go.
