About 15 miles south of Anchorage there’s a pull out off the Seward Highway where you can mark next to some uninspiring rocks.
At first glance it looks like a great place for train spotting (please stay off the tracks!) and not much else. The secret to the rocks is the tide. Out on the rocks you can get 180 degree view of Turnagain Arm and when the tide changes, you might spot beluga whales.
The best time of year to catch the belugas is mid-July through August, so plan that into your travel schedule. You can find the tide times online or in the local newspapers.
